The course is intended to familiarize students with the use of MS Excel in data analysis for economic and financial applications.

The purpose of the course is to provide the ability of
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze data of different nature using MS Excel
- Use formula manipulation, statistical and graphical tools, data analysis tools in MS Excel
- Use some basic financial functions
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
- Import and analyze simple and complex databases in business or economic contexts
- Appropriately summarize and describe a set of data with numerical and graphical tools
- Apply built-in annuity functions and build amortization tables
- Perform sensitivity analysis and what-if analysis in business or economic contexts
MAKING JUDGEMENTS
- Interpret information from simple and complex databases
- Apply fundamental statistical concepts in business and economic contexts to work autonomously in searching, selecting and elaborating corporate data and statistical data from official sources
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Learning of simple and advanced analysis tools available in MS Excel that are useful for appropriately communicating and discussing the results of the analyses as well as company reports and financial analyses

Tools for an efficient use of MS Excel (autofill, formulas, functions, addressing, text manipulation, charts, descriptive statistics, frequency distributions)
Financial functions in MS Excel (net present value, internal rate of return, annuity functions, amortization tables)
Simple and advanced data analysis tools (sorting, filters, data forms, grouping, subtotals, pivot tables, multi-page systems, lookups, what-if analysis, sensitivity analysis)
Power Query (search the web, modify queries, merge tables)

Course delivery
The course is in presence. Please get equipped with a personal laptop and your Excel software: during the classes practical exercises are carried out.

Learning assessment methods
The exam consists of a laboratory test (lasting about 1 hour) aimed at ascertaining the students' ability to use the analysis tools developed during the course to solve practical exercises
Necessary equipment: personal laptop.
