Course objectives

This course is entirely provided in passive online mode through the web platform Start@UniTo.

Due to the nature of the project Start@UniTo, this course is dedicated to 5th-year high school students who are going to attend Business & Management bachelor's degree, that want to anticipate an exam. Business & Management bachelor's degree enrolled students, who want to follow this course online.

Whoever is interested in deepening the knowledge of the topics of the course, but not enrolled in this bachelor's degree.

The course Business Administration is one of the two parts of the integrated course Financial Accounting and Business Administration that counts for 12 ECTS. The integrated course is composed by two modules: Business Administration and Financial Accounting. Each module counts for 6 ECTS each. This module is about Business Administration, but you can find on Start@UniTo also the course Financial Accounting.

Results of learning outcomes

After the course, our students will demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of business administration:

  • Acquiring knowledge and understanding: essential theories in the field of business administration, basic concepts and modern aspects of running a business (virtual, AI, Big Data, new forms of entrepreneurship, circular economy, etc.)
  • Identifying differences and similarities between different entrepreneurial forms
  • Applying knowledge in practice: to identify, analyse and solve business problems (although new, or in other business contexts)
  • Applying basic financial analysis: acquire the ability to understand the nature of profits/losses, costs, revenues, credits/debts. Learning of basic ratios to determine initial economic reasoning will be acquired by the end of the course.
  • Making judgements: an embryonic approach to developing and applying further quantitative skills like "go- "no go" decisions
  • communication skills: demonstrate excellent communication skills in English in diverse business contexts
  • Learning skills: work collaboratively in multicultural teams to address business problems
  • Transformational learning: being enthusiastic in learning the basic business concepts, principles and techniques; becoming future good leaders caring for people and the planet, along with profit.

Entirely online through Start@UniTo.

The course will be organized as follows:
- recorded video lessons about each topic of the course
- tutorials and guided exercises to deepen the topics of the lessons
- assignments that at the end of each lesson, you will have to complete and add to the portfolio that will constitute part of your final grade.
- Some extra-material like videos, articles and papers to deepen the topics covered during the lessons

Learning assessment methods

The Business Administration module’s grade is composed by:
• A written examination that counts for 70% of the final mark.
• tutorials’ participation through an E-Portfolio that counts for 30% of the final mark.

The e-portfolio is a collection of assignments that you have submitted after the tutorials.

You will have to complete some case studies, write some essays and do some online tests. You will have to collect all your essays/tests/papers and bring them to the final exam to be evaluated.

This course has been entirely designed to be passively provided online. Consequently, there are no live interactions between the lecturer and the students, nor between the teaching assistant and the students.
